I heard the most angelic 1 whoop sound at about 2:00 a.m – 3:00 a.m. when having a cigarette outside. The next morning I noticed my bear proof garbage can was open and contents gone through. There was a few bags on ground ripped open.
This was in late September 2013 in Prince George, British Columbia Canada. PS same day.
I have been attracting them by howling from a moving car, so my sound echoed through the ravine below about 2 blocks from home. The same ravine with a creek runs along my property.

Howling from your moving car does carry the sound a lot further then staying stationary.i live in Pennsylvania mountains and have had my garbage "picked" through rather then torn apart,sounds like you may have company .
